Finally finally finally Friday! People, I’ve been m.i.a. with a nasty pinched nerve that immobilized me for the last three weeks. So I’m even happier than usual to be able to work on music again this weekend! Production on the Coachella Mixes has begun and helping me get back on my feet with her live house set this Weekend is Magentik Zu from Australia.

It’s awesome how people meet nowadays. John Beaver and I produce music and the annual Coachella Mixes together. John played in Australia. John met Magentik Zu. He talked about our track. She sent me a friend request and here we are πŸ™‚

Magentik Zu does much more than just DJ and produce, though. She runs the ZuReal DJ website offering DJ classes of all kinds including lessons for our little future star DJs from age 7 and up. The website also serves as a platform for bringing DJs and events together. All in all a super effort that helps bind the music community, which in itself deserves its own feature.

BUT I also have some music for you. Check out this up-beat house mix, that has helped me wake up from my pain-coma. I’m posting the YouTube live recording as well as the SoundCloud version, because the video seems to be blocked in several countries, including mine. For those not fortunate enough to see Magnetik Zu perform live in the video below, check out and enjoy the SoundCloud link!

I’m off now to move my body like I haven’t moved it in the last three weeks, mainly get up, cook, clean, jam a little… you know, human stuff πŸ˜‰

cheers, RDMN

It’s Wednesday again!Β And it didn’t take long for me to find this groovin’Β tech set by Dubfire. The crowd is loving it.
It’s always nice to see the people appreciate the music they came to see. Nothing is worse than a cool set with a cold crowd.

So to get right to the point, presenting the Midweek Thump:
Dubfire at the Solar Dance Arena in Bulgaria.

If you would like to get one of your live sets featured just give me a ring… a social media ring of course πŸ™‚

Any producer knows how cool new shiny musical toys are. That kid in a candy store feeling is all too familiar. The only thing is that a piece of candy in our line of work can easily start at a couple of hundred bills and upward.

So it’s not the most uncommon thing to start rigging. In this case I have my old trusty headphones I’ve used for over ten years as a DJ. Anyone who DJed during that time knows the Silver Sony MDR-V700. Anyone who’s used them also knows that these headphones had two issues:

  1. The rotating joint liked to crack if you are of the more enthusiastic type or just careless.
  2. That the fake leather ear cushions started to get brittle and flake after extended use. This would lead to a sweaty neck full of black pleather flakes after sets.

I never had an issue with number 1, I was pretty careful, but number 2 I think know one got around and neither did I. But I got them out of retirement:

This is not the first time I changed the cushions. I’ve ordered the factory cushions twice already during the lifetime of these headphones. It was time for something else. I found that you can buy fabric replacements online. In many different colors too. So I ordered a red pair for about a 20 (instead of brand new headphones) and I am super satisfied.
These things feel soft and comfortable and I don’t see this material deteriorating like the factory version did.

So sometimes it pays off to look around for a different solution and now I can spend the money on actual candy equipment or virtual instruments instead. 😌
