It’s Friday again!! One more week until my holiday time starts. These past few weeks I’ve been really into drum and bass again as can be seen on my Instagram Story GIF Dance Battles… and so how luck was I when I put my feelers out and Elbereth, an old DJing colleague dropped me a link to her drum and bass mix ‘Bass Requiem’ which at the time of writing has 2970 plays! Let’s reach that 3K!

Bruh, I was jammin home from work through those Bavarian villages at what felt like double speed, blasting this mix and turning heads so hard grandpas be losin their hat feathers n shit. A definite recommendation from me for this weekend. Hopefully it won’t end es fast as it started!

By the way show this girl some love if you have any connection to her at all. She’s recently been diagnosed with chronic TMJ issues and it’s tearing at her. I’m sure she’d appreciate any and all kinds of kindness right about now. Elbereth and I weren’t close friends back in the day, but we DJd some of the same shows, though and anyone from that part of my life, from that part of the scene is family to me, no questions asked… and she’s a fuckin awesome DJ who will bring it if bringing needs to be brought.

Now go fuck up your weekend with this mix ๐Ÿ˜€

Cheers, RDMN

Mix Mastered by: Austin X

Holla if it’s Friday where you live! My Xmas vacation time is coming up so fast now I can hardly concentrate at work at the moment. I’m feeling that straight up house music this weekend and I enlisted my good friend Carlos Alfonzoย to bring the heat with his mix called Deep into the Zone.

Carlos and I played at a lot of the same shows back in the day in the Bay and Sacramento Area and if I can say anything about him at all it’s that he personifies a mantra our scene used to like to live by: Peace, Love, Unity and Respect. Always awesome and helpful during shows. Plus he’s never disappointed as a DJ either, one that started in the old school and adapted perfectly to the current digital age. On top of that he’s a multi-released producer on labels such as:

Tech Asylum Recordings
Chicago based Traxmen Records
Harlots & Hustlers
Fierce Animal Recordings
Elikonas Records
Tech-Asylum Recordings
Mini Coffee Records
Ammo Recordings
Tree House Tribe Records
Blue Orb Records

Although we haven’t mixed it up at the same shows since my exile 6 years ago, I’m pretty sure this is one of those situations where if you meet again a decade later you’re still cool and chill with each other like you just played a show last weekend.

Brother, if you need a little tour of Germany one day don’t forget to hit me up while you’re here ๐Ÿ™‚

Now, let’s enter the weekend proper:

If I learned anything this weekend it’s that I can celebrate it finally being Friday even when it’s saturday already… kinda like a belated celebration. Last week I had to skip out on my weekly post due to a work convention. Yes, I know it’s unbelievable. I do have to work even though I’m running this lucrative blog. Sorry to have to shatter that image of me ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

So this Friday I just had to go back to Dariio and his latest appearance at the Pancakes and Booze festival. The house music and the mixing are so solid I just couldn’t leave work without blasting it on the way home. Turning Bavarian heads has become a Friday pastime and Dariio is definitely helping with my endeavour.

If you get a chance go check out my man over on Choon for some crypto-based streaming fun:

And now to the mix itself. Don’t bounce off the walls now, ya hear?

Cheers, RDMN

So happy for this Friday, musically and because I am getting over a little concussion and can finally function again. During my dizzy spells last weekend, Formless shared an album by G Jonesย praising this producer’s genius and I just had to check it out. Since Formless is my new-music-guru I jumped on it, jumped in it…dove in it, soundwaves crashing in over my head… surrounded by sonic stabs, hits, slaps… my pupils grew ten sizes that day.

This album inspired a very specific part of my own production habits. There are moments when I have over the top, crazy, jaggedy sounds lined up in my own projects but I always put on the breaks and go for a more subtle option. I feel like I need to let those hidden sounds flourish. There are moments where these noises are needed to flesh out the otherwise text-book arrangement or production and this album immediately inspired me to push the edge a little bit more again. Some other producers that had the same effect upon first discovery in the past were: Vitalic, Something a la Mode, Boys Noize, Erol Alkan, Justice, and probably a few more I can’t think of this second.

Either way G Jones does not disappoint with his 11 tracks of Glitchy, Bass, Dubstep, Trap, Electronica, Sampletastic sound.. and neither does Formless for sharing this with me. Thank you for stimulating some growth within me.

After last weeks thump and grime and distortion I want to share one of my favorite mixes from my early mentor, and one of the best producers I’ve ever met, J. Scott G. He manages to bring sophistication into that “Rock Out” feeling! I coined the genre “Electronica” because it’s not all house and electro but includes breaks as well. We met through John Beaver back in the day when Scott was still part of Deepsky, an electronic live band with lots of live percussion resulting in a tendency towards breakbeat arrangements. They’re shows varied with the setup. Sometimes it was just Jason and him and at other shows an entire band would show up… including a live flute as I’ve experienced back at a Hollywood party.

Scott immediately opened up to a young me, an aspiring producer looking for any and all the help he could get. I will never forget how he busted out two empty CDs after their show (Yes CDs, it was 2004-ish) and filled them with DAWs, VSTs and Samples and told me:

“If you can’t make music with this, you can’t make music.”

That same night he also told me the following piece of advice that’s still holy to me:

“If you start a new project and it’s not kickin after 8 tracks, scrap it and start over.”

This happened the very first time we met after a Deepsky show in San Francisco.

We’ve managed to stay in touch, had lots of exciting moments since and even met up in 2012 in Berlin to explore the night life. Unfortunately, I was unable to meet up with him on his last Eurotrip but I’m sure there will be a next one and I’m making it a point to organize a little reunion.

Scott is currently involved in the projects Summer Channel and the thousand-voice-choir-project Qisvara.

Anyways, enough about all that. Like I mentioned this mix can be blasted in the car or listened to while cooking dinner. I did both this Friday. I feel it’s important for me to musically educate my neighbors with the help of the volume knob and these mixes I post. Now check out the last mix you’ll ever need.

Cheers, RDMN

Boy, if these syncopated and grimey sounds don’t reflect how my week has been going then I don’t know what will. BUT it’s friggin Friday and I’m celebrating with another home slice from the Cali DJ days: Formless

We met at a ranchero rave about ten years ago. Such a polite and respectful fellow musician and a dope ass DJ on top of it all. For the past years I’ve been checking out his mixes and one thing I noticed each time is that he was playing music I’ve never heard before.. pretty much every single time and this has always stuck with me.

Today we’re gonna check out a double feature of West Coast Bass. I could lean in and call it trap but I won’t ๐Ÿ˜€ … Back when I was DJing in California, Formless and I played similar styles. He’s always been playing all kinds of music but at the electro shows I played at he also played electro as far as I can remember. It’s interesting to see how our styles morphed over the years (and with the location). I tend to be playing tech house and deep house nowadays and he has become even more versatile never sticking to a strict four to the floor beat. These two mixes are a perfect example of how unconventional Formless can get in constructing his live sets. Awesome job, man. At some points in your mixes I didn’t even know what was happening anymore… ๐Ÿ˜€

I am almost certain that the next mix he’s going to come out with is going to be a completely different genre, maybe even one we haven’t heard of yet.

Now stomp out this weekend with these mixes. Tracklists are below.

I’m a little bit late posting this today, but it’s still Friday in at least Hawaii, right? ๐Ÿ˜€
Also I’ve been jamming to this mix by Dariio, one of my old school friends and musical partners. It’s his live recording of the Pancakes and Booze Art Show in.. I assume Washington State. Either way it sounds like a finger licking good time. This mix is dope to chill to or to dance to or even to rage to, which makes it perfect for so many situations, for example, doing my weekly cruise home from work on Friday’s through that Bavarian town on the way home, blasting house music for all my geezer, lederhosen-wearing, buddies… Sorry for the disturbance every Friday around 2pm ya’ll ๐Ÿ˜€

Now go ahead and chill, dance or rage to this:

There are a bunch of people that I really miss since my exile 6 years ago. This dude is definitely one of them. I’m glad we were able to mix it up, produce it up and party it up back in the day and I know we’ll be chillin here in Germany at some point! But this is also another reason why I like to cover “locals” and friends of the scene instead of just some big name boiler room mixes, as cool as they may be… the personal touch is just a bit cooler to me.

Here is a brief clip of us playing at Pinky’s which since has burnt down. Miss those times, buddy… ๐Ÿ™‚

You can also check out Dariio on:

Please feel free to send me your mixes to be featured. If possible a whole video of your set but streaming links will also work. I’d love to check it out. Hit me up here or on facebook.
