The week went by quickly but I still couldn’t get here fast enough. It’s Friday ya’ll!!
My musical life mate John Beaver and I have been working tirelessly on the Coachella 2019 mixes. This being our 15th year (let that marinate for a second)… 15th year producing and mixing these Coachella themed musical journeys, we wanted to do something a little bit special. We are releasing one mix per week until the festival. Our first release is the Coachella 2019 Underground Dance Artist Mix. This mix features a bunch of tech house, deep house and even techno and electronica that was best mixed with its own kind.
Our other three mixes will be the type of open format mixes that everyone has gotten used to over the years, and they will of course include electronic music as well.
So to wet your whistle please enjoy our first of four mixes while John Beaver and I get back to pounding out the other parts. Last time I looked we are at a total of over 250 minutes of music for this year.. that’s a lot of editing, mixing, fixing, listening, editing again, facepalms, triumphs, lots of laughs and many many many hours over Skype, as we’re doing the entire project while being over 5000 miles apart.

Finally finally finally Friday! People, I’ve been m.i.a. with a nasty pinched nerve that immobilized me for the last three weeks. So I’m even happier than usual to be able to work on music again this weekend! Production on the Coachella Mixes has begun and helping me get back on my feet with her live house set this Weekend is Magentik Zu from Australia.
It’s awesome how people meet nowadays. John Beaver and I produce music and the annual Coachella Mixes together. John played in Australia. John met Magentik Zu. He talked about our track. She sent me a friend request and here we are 🙂
Magentik Zu does much more than just DJ and produce, though. She runs the ZuReal DJ website offering DJ classes of all kinds including lessons for our little future star DJs from age 7 and up. The website also serves as a platform for bringing DJs and events together. All in all a super effort that helps bind the music community, which in itself deserves its own feature.
BUT I also have some music for you. Check out this up-beat house mix, that has helped me wake up from my pain-coma. I’m posting the YouTube live recording as well as the SoundCloud version, because the video seems to be blocked in several countries, including mine. For those not fortunate enough to see Magnetik Zu perform live in the video below, check out and enjoy the SoundCloud link!
I’m off now to move my body like I haven’t moved it in the last three weeks, mainly get up, cook, clean, jam a little… you know, human stuff 😉
It’s late Friday night over here in Germany.. by the time I’m finished it’ll officially be Saturday. But I’m excited I waited because Shayan Darabi, Jason Victorine and Gentry Jones, aka. Phonic Youth just posted probably their first ever live 1-hour mix recording of a show they played recently at Ten15 Folsom in San Francisco for the Yotto Hyperfall Tour 2019.
The reason this is so exciting is because I’ve known Shayan for a very long time. In their early days we even came together for a collaboration and wrote a progressive house banger track called 5am.. over ten years ago. This track includes live guitar by Jason and vocals by Shayan. Still one of my personal favorites in my collection. Phonic Youth has really come a long way and they were already friggin good back then!
Here is a little taste of 5am though I have to say they’re sound has really matured a lot since:
I know that it must have been really exciting receiving the news to be playing at Ten15. I played there a few times myself in the upstairs house room. Those were some of the best shows of my career back then. So I want to send out my sincerest congratulations on getting yet another step further and will dedicate this week’s Finally Friday to never stop taking these steps!
And now please chill or groove or full on dance to this Phonic Youth deep house set, recorded live at Ten15 Folsom in San Francisco, CA.
This is such a dope Friday mix. DJ Denise brings it with her brand new, hot out the oven electro, tech house, techno mix. It reminds me of so many Fridays and Saturdays in my life. So many nights in Berlin. So many after parties in San Francisco and LA.. this mix is gonna be an instant classic in my driving rotation! Denise is being featured for the second time on Finally Friday and you won’t regret checking out everything she’s got. She hails from the Bay and therefore represents many things I stood and still stand for. The scene slightly out of reach for me nowadays but mixes and connections like this make me feel like I’m home!
…and I’m gonna have to snag some of these tracks too… this shit is straight fire, guuuuurl! 😉
Check out this tracklist and the mix right along with it!
Denise, maybe one day we’ll be able to play a show together again. This sound would kill over here in Germany!

It’s finally Friday again… and I’m battling a cold lol. So I really enjoyed this mix by my old musical colleague Controlwerk. I had the honor of releasing a few of his tracks on my labels a couple of years ago. It’s always a pleasure working with him. His productions are of exquisite quality which makes this mix even more special because the entire track selection consists of Controlwerk originals. It’s deep, it’s tech, it’s progressive… it’s the right vibe for me to chug through this cold. 🙂
I’m looking forward to possible future collaborations. Rock on, Jakub!

Here is to knocking this cold out by sunday! cheers, RDMN
With Coachella right around the corner and the 2019 Coachella Mixes in the works with John Beaver, everything I see and hear reminds me of those festival weekends. My compadre Dariio posted this link to Justice Live at Glastonbury on his facebook page and although their sound has matured since I saw them for the first time at Coachella over 10 years ago, it sure fuckin brings me back!
Justice has inspired me so much over the years. They introduced a sound I had never heard before and it pushed me to find new sounds, mixes, mashups, sets, rules and just keep going with my music. No one has brought grimey electro glitch and distorted sounds together and end up with mainstream results like they have.
So here is to a unique, off the wall, glitchy, melodic weekend, everyone!
Happy Friday and a Happy New Year for that matter… welcome to the first Finally Friday of 2019! Let’s jump right in. I’m starting off with my long time homeboy Formless from the California quasi-north and his new drum and bass mix called Turn n’ Burn.
I’ve been into drum and bass again lately and started a lot of production projects in that direction. I was really looking forward to this mix when I heard Zach was working on it and it’s been my jam all day… maybe it’ll be the weekend anthem? 😉
First of all a very Happy New Year to all of you. I don’t start work until next week so there won’t be any cruising, blasting music through Bavarian villages on my way home today. Besides, it’s freezing outside and we’re covered in a blanket of snow.
So it really warms me up thinking about the desert nights in Southern California, specifically the Coachella Music Festival. As many of you probably already know, the line up dropped a couple of days ago, which means it’s go time for John Beaver and me. We really want to get the 2019 mixes out early this year to give all of you enough time to enjoy them and us enough time to promote them.
This is a very special Coachella Mix year for us. Not only is it our 15th annual mix but in 2018 we signed a contract with Golden Voice allowing us to use their font, style, CI, etc. and basically be affiliated with them officially. Which consequently allowed us to build a new website with all of our past mixes on them. You can now go to www.coachellamixes.com and download everything from 2007 – 2018. Since we are now contractually obligated to maintain a certain level of quality I have decided not to include the 2005 and 2006 mixes. Please contact me directly if you are interested in these mixes for nostalgic reasons 🙂
It’s been “Friday” for me for the last week. Holiday time with the family. My parents are here visiting me for the first time in a couple of years. I’m going to retreat for the rest of the year to spend time with them and the rest of the family.
So I want to wish everyone a merry holiday of your choosing plus a happy new year and we’ll see and hear from each other in 2019!
Aaaand what an awesome Friday this is. Actually my “Friday” for this week was yesterday. Last day of work before my Winter holiday time until January. My parents are on the way for their Christmas visit as well so I’m coasting smoothly into the weekend.
I’m very happy to be celebrating this Friday with a new mix by one of my best friends throughout my time in the US: Mikey V!
Don’t worry, this won’t be christmas themed. This mix starts off with a housy feel that got me head nodding really liking the housy vibe and thinking “This is cool, though he usually plays elec..” Slam! and in comes the type of sound he played when we used to share decks at shows in Sacramento. For good measure he even added a couple remixes I made… brownie points! 😀
In some ways our friendship was the kind I had only seen on TV before, unthinkable in a German setting. His family’s front door was always open to me so I was able to barge in there like a sitcom side character without prior notice. It was like that for years and it was fun. I felt welcome at all times. One of the many things I miss about the past. I’m glad that with today’s connectivity options it is relatively easy to at least stay in touch and, with a bit more effort, nurture and continue to grow a friendship.
I’m happy Mike recorded this new mix and that I was able to annoy my co-workers by blasting it in the car as I parked it on the company parking lot for the last time in 2018 at 6:55 am.
